Discussion Question 4: What recommendations would you make to Shyamla and the team on how they might continue to develop their programmes in the future?

Some possibilities include:

(i) clarification of SIAAP's mission and priorities. (Perhaps reestablishing NGO support as priority. Much more could be done if as many NGOs as possible were capable of contributing to the HIV/AIDS problem, so it might be more effective in the long run for SIAAP to help others than to try and do things themselves.); (ii) recruiting individuals with specific skills to SIAAP so that individuals could specialise in helping NGOs in certain interventions; (iii) careful monitoring of the effectiveness of the NGO support programme; (iv) seeking to develop "apex" NGOs in different locations so that these could also begin to act as resources (technical/materials) to other NGOs; (v) prioritisation of activities within the limits of SIAAP's capacity (learning to say "no" to some requests for assistance); (vi) seeking to support SIAAP leadership by looking for strong deputies to ensure smooth succession.
