It is the aim of the government to incorporate traditional healers and birth attendants into the national health care delivery programme. Their activities have to be legitimized and rationalised by establishing policy guidelines and strategies. Training is necessary to improve their skills.
Plants and herbal materials, used in traditional medicine will continued to be researched at the University to prove their safety and efficacy for specified symptoms and diseases. Research methodology should be scientifically sound and ethically acceptable.
In future effective safe herbal medicines may be put into modern pharmaceutical dosage forms with the support of the local pharmaceutical industries. It has also been suggested to establish gardens with useful medicinal plants in each ward or district to improve on their availability and use.
