1.5.3 Gastric Ulcer

Referral to a specialist is recommended.

General measures (above) are important.

Endoscopic biopsy to exclude malignancy in ALL cases whenever possible.

Cimetidine (O) 800 mg at night for 6 weeks.

Follow-up endoscopy with biopsy should be done after completion of treatment. If ulcer persists, give:

Cimetidine (O) 400 mg four times a day for 6 weeks.

If inadequate response or any evidence of malignancy, refer for treatment of Heterobacter Pyloric and surgery.
