3.17.7 Implant Contraceptive

“Norplant”

Containing levonorgestrel in six silastic capsules is implanted in the left upper arm made local anaesthesia.

“Norplant”

Is effective for five years and is recommended for women who have completed their family or not ready for sterilization or those not able to take oestrogen containing contraceptives.

Contraindications for Norplant

• severe hypertension
• thromboembolism
• active liver disease
• sickle cell anaemia
• undiagnosed genital bleeding
• severe headaches.
