Routine testing with a full blood count and liver enzymes for patients on AZT and 3TC is not recommended for such a short duration of therapy and any blood tests should be performed according to patient’s condition.
3 months after the PEP period, the individual should return for a confirmatory set of HIV tests to determine that the treatment was effective. If it was not effective and therefore they became infected, they should be enrolled in the care program at the CTC and monitored appropriately as all HIV+ individuals.
