The Ministry is responsible for ensuring that pharmaceutical products are distributed safely, efficiently, and promptly to Ministry health facilities. Ministry pharmaceutical supply services, currently provided by the Medical Supplies Co-ordinating Unit (MSCU), will include zonal pharmaceutical stores and incorporate the Essential Drugs Programme (EDP).
Allocation of drugs and medical supplies will be based on actual facility workload. Additional drugs, supplementary to the KEDL/KVDEL, to be designated as "Secondary- Scheduled Drugs," will be made available to the specialist units of the health institutions.
Private sector involvement in administration, storage, or transport will be encouraged wherever it is found to improve distribution efficiency and reduce costs.
