1.1.2 Ascariasis (Round Worms)

Clinical features: It is an infection caused by Ascaris lumbricoides. The main clinical features are abdominal discomfort or colic, rarely they may cause intestinal obstruction and malnutrition.

Treatment guidelines

Drug of choice	Mebendazole (O)
Adult and Children above 2 years	100 mg every 12 hours for 3 days.
Second choice	Levamisole (O)
Adult	120 - 1 50 mg as a single dose.
Children below 2 years	3 mg/kg body weight as single dose
	Or
	2.5 mg/kg body weight as single dose, repeated after 7 days.
