Clinical features: G6PD is an inherited X-linked recessive genetic disorder. Usually asymptomatic but liable to haemolysis if incriminated drugs or foods are taken (e.g.. sulphonamides or proguanil).
Treatment Guidelines
• Avoid incriminated agents/foods or drugs.
• Transfusion of packed cells volumes in severe anaemia. Give 2-3 ml/kg body weight over a period of 8 hours once every 24 hours for 3 days.
